Passage One Hundred and Twenty One
子曰：「雍也可使南面。」
English Translation
Confucius said: Jhonggeng have what it takes to be King.
Passage One Hundred and Twenty Two
仲弓問子桑伯子，子曰：「可也簡。」仲弓曰：「居敬而行簡，以臨其民，不亦可乎？居簡而行
簡，無乃大簡乎？」子曰：「雍之言然。」
English Translation
Jhonggong asked about Sangbozih.
Confucius said: He is fine. His way of doing things is simple and clear.
Jhonggong said: Would a strictly planned policy, with a simple and clear operation work? If the policy
planned is lousy and the operation is rough, would that be underperforming?
Confucius said: You are correct.
Passage One Hundred and Twenty Three
哀公問：「弟子孰為好學？」孔子對曰：「有顏回者好學，不遷怒，不貳過。不幸短命死矣！今
也則亡，未聞好學者也。」
English Translation
Mr. A asked: Which of your students are keen in their studies?
Confucius said: Yanhuei is a keen student. He doesn’t get angry at people and he never makes the same
mistake twice. Pity he died young, now there are no one, who are that keen.
Passage One Hundred and Twenty Four
子華使於齊，冉子為其母請粟。子曰：「與之釜。」請益。曰：「與之庾。」冉子與之粟五秉。
子曰：「赤之適齊也，乘肥馬，衣輕裘。吾聞之也，君子周急不繼富。」
English Translation
Zihhwa became the ambassador to Ci nation. Youzih helps Zihwa to ask for some rice for his mother.
Confucius said: give him six dou and four san.
Youzih asked for more.
Confucius said: Give him another two duo and four san.
But Youzih gave him eighty Shrr.
Confucius said: At Ci nation, Zihhwa used the most beautiful carriages, the most beautiful cloth. A true
gentleman would show charity to those who are in need, not those whom already have enough.
Note: 石 shrr 斗 dou 升 san are units of measurement in ancient China.
Passage One Hundred and Twenty Five
原思為之宰，與之粟九百，辭。子曰：「毋！以與爾鄰里鄉黨乎！」
English Translation
Yuansih worked for Confucius. Confucius paid him with ten thousand kilos of food. Yuansih won't accept
it.
Confucius said: Don't say no, share it with the people of your village.
Passage One Hundred and Twenty Six
子謂仲弓曰：「犂牛之子騂且角，雖欲勿用，山川其舍諸？」
English Translation
When talking about Jhonggong, Confucius said: He might be born from a poor family. But just like a cow
with red hair and horn, even if nobody want to use it to worship the gods. The gods still won't reject it.
Passage One Hundred and Twenty Seven
子曰：「回也，其心三月不違仁，其餘則日月至焉而已矣。」
English Translation
Confucius said: Yanhuei can continue to be humane for over three months. The other students can only
continue for half a month.
Passage One Hundred and Twenty Eight
季康子問：「仲由可使從政也與？」子曰：「由也果，於從政乎何有？」曰：「賜也，可使從政
也與？」曰：「賜也達，於從政乎何有？」曰：「求也，可使從政也與？」曰：「求也藝，於從
政乎何有？」
English Translation Jikangzih asked: Can Jhongyou be a Lord?
Confucius said: Jhongyou is decisive. He will make a good Lord.
Jikangzih then asked: Can Zihgong be a Lord?
Confucius said: Zihgong is perceptive. He would make a good Lord.
Jikangzih asked: Would Zaiciou be a good Lord?
Confucius said: Zaiciou has many different talents. He would be a good Lord.
Passage One Hundred and Twenty Nine
季氏使閔子騫為費宰。閔子騫曰：「善為我辭焉。如有復我者，則吾必在汶上矣。」
English Translation
The head of Ji family offers Minzihci the position of been the Lord Mayor, on the government's behalf.
Minzihci said: Please help me to reject the offer, if somebody asked me again, please tell them, I left the
country.
Passage One Hundred and Thirty
伯牛有疾，子問之，自牖執其手，曰：「亡之，命矣夫！斯人也而有斯疾也！斯人也而有斯疾
也！」
English Translation
Boniou is seriously ill. Confucius went to see him and hold his hand from the window and said: Is this the
end of your life? Even a person like you would contract such illness? Even a person like you would
contract such illness.
Passage One Hundred and Thirty One
子曰：「賢哉回也！一簞食，一瓢飲，在陋巷。人不堪其憂，回也不改其樂。賢哉回也！」
English Translation
Confucius said: Yanhuei is truly wise! He only has a basket of food, a sip of
water and lives on a poor
people street. Everybody here is sad, only Yanhuei can still be happy here, that is really wise.
Passage One Hundred and Thirty Two
冉求曰：「非不說子之道，力不足也。」子曰：「力不足者，中道而廢。今女畫。」
English Translation
Ranciou said: It isn't that I don't like master's principles, it is just I don't have enough ability.
Confucius said: If you give up because you don't have enough ability, then you won't even want to start.
Passage One Hundred and Thirty Three
子謂子夏曰：「女為君子儒，無為小人儒。」
English Translation
Confucius said: You need to be an educated gentleman, not an educated savage.
Note: In the hand of good people, he would use the skills he gains from education or training for good. In the hand of a bad person, he would use the skills he gains from education or training for evil. Imagine if a highly trained engineer, if he chose to help a Communist state to develop weapons, he would be using his skills for evil. If he chose to help a free country to develop weapons, he would be using his skills for good. If a person is an Ex-Navy SEAL, if he chose to help train gangsters in SEAL fighting technique, he is using his skills for evil. But if he chose to teach these skills, to the police or open up a self-defence class, in the university and only accepting students of good merit, he is using his skills for good.

子游為武城宰。子曰：「女得人焉爾乎？」曰：「有澹臺滅明者，行不由徑。非公事，未嘗至於

English Translation
Zihyou became the Lord of Wu City.
Confucius said: Have you found any talent there?
Zihyou said: There is a man call Dantaimieming. When he walk, he takes no shortcut, unless it is business,
he never comes to the place I live.
Passage One Hundred and Thirty Five
子曰：「孟之反不伐，奔而殿，將入門，策其馬，曰：「『非敢後也，馬不進也。』」
English Translation
Confucius said: Mengjhihfan is not the type of person who praises himself. When his army was
retreating, he stayed back to provide cover for retreating troops. After he entered the castle, he quickly
rode his horse, to the troops that are sent here to meet him and said "It is not that I dare to be the last
to arrive, it is because my horse is slow”
Passage One Hundred and Thirty Six
子曰：「不有祝鮀之佞，而有宋朝之美，難乎免於今之世矣。」
English Translation
Confucius said: If you are a beautiful person, who has no talent in debate, you are likely to have trouble.
Note: According to psychology. All human wanted to be love. However, according to former US District Attorney lawyers, there are cases where certain women might go to further extend, making up a story of been
raped, by a particular man, to lead people to think, she is so desirable, that a man would rape her.
According to statistic, 5.9% of reported rape cases, are confirmed false accusation, 13.9% of reported
rape are not conclusive, due to lack of evidence. 44.9% of reported rape did not proceed, because of
lack of evidence, the accuser is not cooperative or don't meet the standard qualified as rape. Only 35.3%
of reported rape can be confirm as rape.
Passage One Hundred and Thirty Seven
子曰：「質勝文則野，文勝質則史。文質彬彬，然後君子。」
English Translation Confucius said: When a person's substance quality surpasses his culture quality it would make him seem rude. When his culture quality surpasses his substance quality, it would make him seem like a snob. Only when a person's culture quality and substance quality are more balance, would make him seem like a gentleman.
子曰：「人之生也直，罔之生也幸而免。」
English Translation Confucius said: A person must be able to survive, by been upstanding. There are those who are not upstanding that survive too, but only if they are lucky, enough to avoid the disastrous.
子曰：「知之者不如好之者，好之者不如樂之者。」
English Translation Confucius said: Liking to learn, is better than knowing you need to learn. Enjoy learning is better than liking to learn.
子曰：「中人以上，可以語上也；中人以下，不可以語上也。」
English Translation Confucius said: When you met a person with intelligence higher than average, you can talk complex knowledge with them. When you met a person with an intelligence lower than average, you cannot talk complex knowledge with them.
樊遲問知。子曰：「務民之義，敬鬼神而遠之，可謂知矣。」問仁。曰：「仁者先難而後獲，可
謂仁矣。」
English Translation Fanchih asked Confucius what is wisdom. Confucius said: Rule according to public opinion, respect the gods, but stay away from them, would be enough. Fanchir then asked but humane. Confucius said: Do the hard things first and have fun later.
子曰：「知者樂水，仁者樂山。知者動，仁者靜。知者樂，仁者壽。」
English Translation Confucius said: Those who are intelligent, prefers water. Those who are kind prefer the mountain. Those, who are intelligent, prefer to move around. Those, who are kind, prefer quiet. Those who are intelligent are happy. Those who are kind live a long life.
子曰：「齊一變，至於魯；魯一變，至於道。」
English Translation Confucius said: Ci nation would achieve Lu nation's status, after reform to its government structure. Lu nation would move to the path of justice, after government structure reform.
子曰：「觚不觚，觚哉！觚哉！」
English Translation Confucius said: Use this sort of instrument to worship the gods is a mess, what sort of instrument is this?
Passage One Hundred and Forty Five
宰我問曰：「仁者，雖告之曰，『井有仁焉。』其從之也？ 子曰：「何為其然也？君子可逝也，不可陷也；可欺也，不可罔也。」
English Translation Confucius said: As a humane person if someone told you "A humane person fall into the well" would you jump down to save him? Confucius said: How can someone do that? A gentleman can go and save a person's life, but cannot get himself stuck in it. He can be lied to, but he cannot act blindly.
子曰：「君子博學於文，約之以禮，亦可以弗畔矣夫！」
English Translation Confucius said: A true gentleman is well cultured, he restricts himself via the law of manners and he won't move to the wrong path.
子見南子，子路不說。夫子矢之曰：「予所否者，天厭之！天厭之！」
English Translation Confucius met Nanzih, a famous and beautiful woman, who is known to be a free spirit is her sex life. Zihlu was not happy about it. Confucius said: If I have lustful thought, then let the gods hate me, let the gods hate me.
子曰：「中庸之為德也，其至矣乎！民鮮久矣。」
English Translation Confucius said: Make ordinary the standard of morality, is more the good enough! People have lack it for a long time.
子貢曰：「如有博施於民而能濟眾，何如？可謂仁乎？」
子曰：「何事於仁！必也聖乎！堯舜其猶病諸！夫仁者，己欲立而立人，己欲達而達人。能近取
譬，可謂仁之方也已。」
English Translation Zihgong said: What type of person is he? If he is a person, who can let the people receive material comfort and help the poor, is he a humane person? Confucius said: He is more than humane, he is a Saint. Even the Kings might not be able to do it. If you are willing to help other to achieve success, before yourself and willing to help people when you can, you are a humane person. Been willing to put himself in other people's shoe and treat others, how you are willing to be treated, is enough to be considered as humane.
English Translation Confucius said: When a person's substance quality surpasses his culture quality it would make him seem rude.
